What is your role at Aspire, and how long have you been with us?
I joined Aspire UK in July 2022. My current role is Team Leader, where my main responsibilities include assessing new clients, developing person-centred care plans, supervising care staff, and providing field-based support to ensure the highest quality of care.
What inspired you to start working in care?
I was inspired to work in care because I’ve always wanted to make a real difference in people’s lives and make a positive impact. I have always been drawn to helping others. As a Team Leader, I get to support both clients and staff, which makes the role even more rewarding.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is knowing I’m helping people, whether it’s making sure clients get the care they need or supporting staff so they feel confident in what they do.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Aspire?
My favourite thing about working at Aspire is how much I’ve grown and developed. I’ve had the chance to learn new skills, and I’ve met some great people along the way, both within the team and our clients, which makes the job even more enjoyable.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me depends on whether I’m in the office or out in the field. When I’m in the office, I support with answering phones, handling queries, and writing care plans. When I’m out in the field, I’m focused on assessing and reviewing clients, as well as carrying out supervision with care staff. It’s a good balance.
What’s one thing people often misunderstand about home care?
One thing people often misunderstand about home care is that it’s just about helping with everyday tasks. In reality, it’s about building relationships and offering a level of support that goes beyond just physical care. Home care is about improving quality of life, providing emotional support, and making sure clients feel comfortable and safe in their own homes.
What’s something you’ve learned from one of your clients?
One thing I’ve learned from a client is the importance of staying positive, no matter what life throws at you. I’ve seen clients face tough situations with such strength and it’s been a real eye-opener. Their ability to stay positive and adapt has taught me to appreciate the little things in life and approach things with a more open mind.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in care?
My advice would be to go for it if you have a passion for helping others. It is a rewarding career but can be challenging at times. It is important to have patience, be positive and have empathy. You can always learn and grow within the care industry.
